How to choose furniture for the dining room ?
The dining room in the traditional sense is a room for ceremonial dinners of a large family and treats for guests. Long ago, in wealthy homes, the places where food was prepared and taken were separated from each other by a fairly large distance. This was very convenient in the presence of servants, but in modern apartments and houses such a distance from the kitchen and dining room is sometimes difficult, and sometimes not necessary.
Nowadays, the dining room (or rather, just a dining table with chairs) is usually located right in the kitchen, and the hostess does not have to travel any distance to set the table and serve the prepared dishes. In addition, in the age of speed and full “time pressure” we have absolutely no time to have a long lunch, waiting for the next change of dishes. In spacious homes, a separate room can be allocated for the dining room. In this case, you will need the appropriate furniture: a large dining table and several chairs, as well as glazed cabinets for storing dishes, Cutlery and linen. These are various kinds of cupboards, sideboards, showcases, slides, etc. the functions of such cabinets include not only storing the relevant items, but also demonstrating the welfare of the owners of the house. And, most importantly, transparent glass allows you to admire the beauty of the objects of art, collections and elegant sets that are located in them.
The dining table can have any shape: round, oval, rectangular or other-the choice depends on you. However, if you often receive guests in the house, it is important that there is enough space for everyone, so try to estimate the size of the table in advance.
Chairs in the dining room should have a solid seat and a straight back, otherwise their designs may differ significantly (although in any case, chairs on rollers are inappropriate here). Sometimes chairs are replaced by strict high chairs, equipped with armrests. Before buying a dining set, don’t forget to calculate how many chairs you and your guests may need.
In open-plan rooms, the dining room is often combined with the living room or kitchen. The dining area is separated from the Seating area with sofas and upholstered chairs by shelving and partitions, or by differences in finish and color. In this case, by analogy with a separate room for the dining room, you will also have to buy a large dining table with chairs. The dining room can be separated from the kitchen by a bar. And in order to achieve the full effect of separating the places of cooking and absorption of food, it is advisable to equip the dining area with a separate lighting system. Then, by turning on the bright light above the table, you can immerse the kitchen in shadow.
Often the dining room, or rather, the dining area is located directly “inside” the kitchen (if the area allows). In rooms with U – shaped furniture layout, the table for eating together with chairs or stools can be located in the center of the kitchen (as an “island”) or act as a “Peninsula” from the wall.
In kitchens with an L-shaped layout, the table is often placed in the corner opposite to that in which the Cabinet furniture is located. Instead of chairs and stools, special corner sofas are used as a place to sit. These “corners” are fundamentally different from the soft and extensive counterparts standing in the living room. Like chairs in traditional dining rooms, they have a straight back and a fairly firm seat.
In many modern apartments with small kitchens, there is no dining room even in a “stripped-down” form. Its role is performed, for example, by a transformer table complete with folding chairs, which can be folded after dinner.
Most often, the dining room as an independent room is designed in the classical style or even in the Baroque style (with many decorative elements, carvings and other decorations). If a separate room for the dining room in the house is not allocated, its style usually corresponds to the style of those rooms, “inside” which it is located.
